Ingredients
For 6 servings
- 1.5 kg 1.5 kg Beef
- 3 3 Onions
- 2 2 blonde beer
- 2 2 slice(s) Gingerbread
- 2 c. à soupe 2 Tbsp Brown Cassonade
- 3 c. à soupe 3 Tbsp Mustard
- 1 1 Hazelnut Butter
- Salt
- Pepper
Method
- 1.start cooking
- 2.Start this first step by browning the meat of your beef carbonade in a pan with butter. Each piece of meat must be browned on each side for a better cooking hold but the heart must remain blue.
- 3.Adding ingredients and cooking over low heat
- 4.Peel and finely slice the onions. Once the meat is browned, remove it from your pan and sauté the chopped onions until they become slightly coloured. Be careful not to burn them, so consider constantly stirring during this step. Once the onions are golden, put the pieces of meat back into the pan. Season with salt and pepper at your convenience. Then add the beer and simmer for 1h50 your easy Flemish carbonade base preparation.
- 5.Addition of ingredients
- 6.Stir slices of mustard spice bread and place on meat, add brown sugar. As brown sugar is one of the most typical ingredients of Flemish carbonade, it should not be replaced by red sugar.
- 7.Final cooking
- 8.Let cook for 10 min, carefully avoiding that the gingerbread melts. Finally, serve your easy Flemish carbonade that you can accompany with french fries as is traditionally the traditional dish in Belgium, or potatoes or tagliatelles.
